Unthrottled reads PC stress-test logs and tells you what to tune. To do that we store your account, your builds, and the runs you send us. This page explains exactly what we collect, why, and what control you have over it. We do not sell your data.
What we collect
- Account details you give us when you sign up: a username, an email address, and optionally your name. Passwords are stored only as a salted hash, never in plain text.
- Your hardware and runs. The builds you create (CPU, GPU, cooler, fans, and fan curves) and the sensor logs you upload or capture. A run is a CSV of temperature, clock, power, fan, and voltage readings over time, plus details you add such as the benchmark, ambient temperature, and notes.
- Ratings and messages. If you rate Unthrottled or message us, we keep what you wrote so we can respond.
- Technical and security data. To protect accounts we record sign-in events, including the time, your IP address, and your browser's user-agent string.
- Basic visit analytics. When you load a public page we record the page, the time, and the site that referred you, plus a short daily-rotating code so we can estimate how many separate people visited. That code is a one-way hash and the raw values behind it, your IP address and browser, are not stored. We use this only to understand traffic and where visitors come from, never to build a profile of you. If you choose Essential only in the cookie banner, we stop counting your visits entirely.
How we use it
- To analyze your runs, score them, and generate tuning advice.
- To keep your history so you can compare runs and builds over time.
- To power community comparisons. We're building features that let people compare builds and runs against others'. As these roll out, your runs and the parts in your builds may be used in those comparisons, presented around the hardware and the results rather than your identity.
- To run your account, send essential email (such as password resets), and reply to feedback.
- To keep the service secure and detect abuse.
The Unthrottled app
The optional Windows app is built to be privacy-respecting. It reads your hardware sensors and uploads a single run to your account only when you start a capture. It is not always-on tracking, and it does not collect your files, browsing, or other activity. Prefer to send nothing automatically? Skip the app and upload a HWiNFO CSV by hand, so you control exactly what gets sent.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers strictly to operate Unthrottled:
- Email delivery for transactional messages such as password resets.
- Optional AI advice. When you use the AI deep-analysis, a summarized description of a run's sensor statistics (not your account details) is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic (Claude), to generate written advice. The core rule-based analysis works without this.
- Payments. Paid plans are billed through Stripe, our payment processor, which handles your card details under its own privacy policy. We never see or store your full card number; we receive only confirmation of your purchase and your subscription status.
- Advertising. Free-tier users see ads. Most are sold directly by us and served first-party, with no third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking. We may also use Google AdSense to fill unsold space; AdSense is a third-party provider that may set its own advertising cookies, and it runs only after you choose Accept all in the cookie banner. Premium plans are ad-free.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the service and its users.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and runs until you delete them or close your account. You can delete individual runs and computers at any time from inside the app. Security logs are kept only as long as they are useful for protecting accounts.
Your choices
- Edit your profile and change your password from your account settings.
- Delete any run or build from inside the app.
- Ask us to delete your account and associated data, or to send you a copy of it.
To make any of these requests, email support@smartbencher.com.
Cookies
We keep cookies to a minimum. Today the only cookies Unthrottled sets are strictly necessary ones:
- Session cookie to keep you signed in.
- Security token to protect forms against cross-site request forgery.
- Your consent choice, so we remember whether you accepted optional cookies.
Your theme preference is stored in your browser's local storage, not a cookie. As Unthrottled grows we may add optional analytics or, on free tiers, advertising cookies. Those are off until you choose Accept all in the cookie banner, and you can change your mind at any time using the Cookie settings link in the footer. Choosing Essential only keeps everything optional switched off, including our anonymous visit counter. Paid plans are intended to be ad-free.
Children
Unthrottled is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy at any time. Continuing to use Unthrottled after an update means you accept the updated policy.
