Terms of Service
Last updated October 18, 2026 · version 2026-10-18
An earlier version. This is version 2026-10-18 of our Terms of Service, in effect on October 18, 2026, until a newer version replaced it that day. Read the current version.
These terms are the agreement between you and Unthrottled ("we", "us") for using the Unthrottled website, your account and the Unthrottled agent for Windows. By creating an account or using Unthrottled, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Unthrottled.
Please read Advice, risk and liability in particular. Our suggestions are general guidance, and any change you make to your PC is your decision and your risk.
Who can use Unthrottled
You must be at least 13 to use Unthrottled, or older if the law where you live sets a higher age. When you create an account, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that you accept these terms and our Privacy Policy. We record when you accepted them and which version you accepted.
Advice, risk and liability
Unthrottled's scores, findings and suggestions are general guidance worked out from your sensor logs. They are not professional advice, and they may not suit your hardware. Logs can be incomplete, sensors can misreport, and our analysis can be wrong, including anything written by AI.
Changing power limits, voltages, clocks, fan curves or cooling, or acting on anything else Unthrottled suggests, is entirely at your own risk. Changes like these can cause instability, data loss, a shorter component life, voided warranties or permanent damage. You decide whether a change is right for your hardware, and you're responsible for checking it against the manufacturer's guidance and watching your system afterwards.
Unthrottled, including the agent, is provided "as is". We don't promise that it will be accurate, complete, available without interruption, or fit for any particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for damage to your hardware, loss of data, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Unthrottled or from acting on its advice. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.
Your account
Give accurate information when you sign up, and keep your email address up to date. Keep your password to yourself: you're responsible for what happens under your account. If you think someone else has got into it, change your password and let us know.
Acceptable use
When you use Unthrottled, don't:
- upload logs or other data from someone else's computer or account without their permission, or anything else you don't have the right to share
- post content that is unlawful, abusive or harassing, including in names, notes, ratings and arena titles
- use bots or scripts to scrape or bulk-download the site, other than the agent doing its normal job
- attack the service: probe it for weaknesses, overload it, get around its limits, or try to get into accounts or data that aren't yours, except for security research that follows the rules below
- upload malware, or files made to break or slow down our systems
- pretend to be someone else, or create extra accounts to get around a suspension or to game the Arena
- use Unthrottled for anything illegal
If you break these rules, we may remove content, or suspend or close your account.
Security research
If you find a security problem, we want to hear about it. Report it to the contact listed in our security.txt file. Good-faith research is welcome as long as you:
- only test against your own account and data, or accounts you created for testing
- stop as soon as you reach anyone else's data, don't keep or share it, and tell us about it
- don't disrupt the service: no denial-of-service attacks, heavy automated scanning, spam or social engineering
- give us a reasonable chance to fix the problem before you tell anyone else
Research that follows these rules doesn't break these terms, and we won't take legal action against you for it. We don't currently pay rewards for reports.
Your content
You own the logs, runs, builds, notes and other content you add to Unthrottled. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, copy, process and analyze that content, and to show it to you, so we can run the service. The license also covers:
- including averaged figures from your runs in community comparisons, unless you switch that off on your account page
- showing your Arena entries to other Arena users, as described below and in our Privacy Policy
- publishing a rating you give us, with your first name or username, if it's 75 or higher and we choose to feature it. We'll take it down if you ask.
The license ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from copies in our backups, which are replaced on their normal schedule. You're responsible for what you add, and for having the right to share it.
The Arena
The Arena is an invite-only beta where people put scored runs on shared leaderboards. Because it's a beta, its rules, scoring and boards may change or be reset, and we may pause or end it at any time.
Play fair. Arena runs must be real runs, recorded by the agent on hardware you own or control, under the conditions the arena sets. Don't edit or fabricate logs, tamper with the agent or its readings, or use more than one account to improve your standing.
Other Arena users can see your entries, including your first name (or username), the main parts in your build, the programs you ran and your scores. Scores come from our own calculations and aren't a guarantee of how your hardware performs. We may hide or remove entries, recalculate scores, or remove anyone from the Arena if we think an entry breaks these rules or a score is wrong.
The Windows agent
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use the Unthrottled agent on computers you own or control, with your Unthrottled account. Don't sell, rent or redistribute it, or modify it to send false or manipulated data. This license ends if you break these terms or close your account. Some parts of the agent come from other developers and are covered by their own licenses.
What it does. The agent reads your PC's hardware sensors while it's open, records runs when you ask it to, and uploads them to your account after you confirm. Arena runs upload automatically when their timer ends. It can also detect your hardware to set up a build, and it checks in with our server while it's open. The Privacy Policy lists exactly what it sends.
Administrator rights and the CPU sensor driver. Some readings, such as CPU temperature and power, need administrator rights and a kernel driver. With your consent, the agent installs PawnIO, a signed driver made by a third party and covered by its own license. PawnIO stays installed until you remove it, even if you uninstall the agent, because other monitoring tools can use it too. To remove it, open Windows Settings, go to Apps, then Installed apps, and uninstall PawnIO.
Updates. The installed version of the agent gets its updates from our server. It checks for new versions while it's open and, depending on your settings, installs them automatically when it starts or waits for you to choose Update now. Updates can add, change or remove features, and older versions may stop working with Unthrottled. The portable version doesn't update itself.
Removing it. Uninstall the installed version from Windows Settings like any other app, or delete the folder if you use the portable version, then unlink the device on your Agent page. Runs the agent saved on your PC stay in your Documents folder until you delete them.
Ads and paid plans
Unthrottled is free to use and supported by ads. We may also offer Premium as a paid plan, either Premium Monthly (a subscription) or Premium Lifetime (a one-time payment). If you buy a paid plan, the following applies.
Premium Monthly
- It renews every month, and you're charged each month until you cancel.
- You can cancel at any time from the billing portal, which you can reach from your account page. You keep Premium until the end of the period you've paid for, and you won't be charged again.
- If we change the monthly price, we'll tell you in advance, and you can cancel before the new price applies to you.
- Deleting your account cancels a Monthly subscription immediately.
Premium Lifetime
- Lifetime is a one-time payment with no renewals.
- It covers the Premium features available on the day you buy it, which are listed on the pricing page and on your account page, for as long as Unthrottled operates. Premium features added after your purchase aren't included. They come with Premium Monthly.
- If you buy Lifetime while subscribed to Monthly, your subscription stops renewing and you keep Monthly until the end of the period you paid for.
- If a Lifetime payment is refunded or reversed, the Lifetime plan ends. Lifetime belongs to your account, so deleting the account ends it.
Both plans
- We give refunds where the law requires them.
- The price you pay is the one shown at checkout, including any taxes we're required to collect.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using Unthrottled whenever you like, and delete your account from your account page.
We may suspend or close your account, or remove content, if you break these terms, if your use puts other people or the service at risk, or if the law requires it. Where it's reasonable, we'll tell you why. Unthrottled will also change over time, and we may add or remove features. If we decide to shut Unthrottled down, we'll try to give you notice first so you can download your data.
The section on advice, risk and liability still applies after your account ends.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as Unthrottled changes. When we do, we'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll tell you by email or with a notice on the site before they take effect. If you keep using Unthrottled after a change takes effect, the new terms apply to you. If you don't agree with them, stop using Unthrottled and delete your account.
General
If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later.
